Targeted Support Notification

October 2025

Dear Parent/Guardian:
This letter is to inform you that Crain’s Creek Middle has been designated as a Targeted Support & Improvement Additional Targeted Support (TSI-AT) and/or Targeted Support & Improvement Consistently Underperforming school and has been designated as a low-performing school (LPS) by the North Carolina State Board of Education.

TSI-AT and/or TSI-CU schools in North Carolina are those that have a subgroup that is under-performing.  North Carolina’s plan to meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) standards requires the state to identify schools for targeted support and improvement.  The intent of this opportunity is to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction. Crain’s Creek Middle School was designated TSI-AT and/or CU in the Subgroup initials and written subgroup(s). Low performing schools are those with a letter grade of D or F and a school growth score of “met expected growth” or “not met expected growth.”  School Performance Grades are based 80 percent on student proficiency and 20 percent on students’ academic growth. Crain’s Creek Middle School received a School Performance Grade of a D and a growth designation of Not Met Expected Growth for the 2024-2025 school year.
As required by TSI and LPS, Crain’s Creek Middle School has already developed a comprehensive school improvement plan, which will be posted at https://www.ncmcs.org/SIP in December.  This plan specifically addresses how we plan to improve student achievement.  In addition, the district continues to support our school with various programs, support personnel, and initiatives designed to increase student achievement.
We are working to make 2025-2026 the most successful year yet.  We have already:

  • School Improvement goals and action steps related to this work
  • Our students need to experience higher achievement levels, but it will require hard work on the part of staff, students, and families.  Parent engagement is at the heart of our school improvement efforts. Here are some ways we can work together:

  •  Make sure that both you and your students are aware of academic expectations set for your student this school year (www.ncpublicschools.org/curriculum/).

  • Make sure that your student is prepared and attends school each day.
  • Monitor your student’s progress using the Infinite Campus Portal.  See your school’s data manager for more information.
  • Keep track of our website and social media sites School website link  or Facebook link
