Crain's Creek Middle School has made great endeavors to create an outdoor organic learning garden with community help from the Vass Lions Club and Moore County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
The school garden currently includes raised beds for organic food crops and native pollinators, a raised wicking bed for herbs, and a solar power rain water irrigation system.
Our goal is to prepare students with skill sets for nutritious diets and healthy lifestyles by learning not only how to grow their own foods but also understand the role of nature's pollinators, how to reduce their carbon footprints, and the various ways that technology can help.
